Impact Fitting Tools

Proper mounting is essential to ensure long bearing life. Timken’s impact fitting tools are designed to facilitate safe, precise and quick mounting. Each kit features impact-resistant plastic collets. These help avoid metal-to-metal contact and the resulting shaft damage.

During the mounting of bearings, where the faces lie in the same plane, the collets enable the load to be transmitted to the ring experiencing the interference fit. If the impact mounting tool is used, mounting forces are not transmitted via the rolling elements and damage to the raceways is avoided.

Low-Frequency Induction Heaters

Timken offers a large assortment of high-quality induction heaters designed for demanding industrial applications. They can heat and radially expand a wide variety of gears, rings, couplings, bearings and other components.

Induction heating is a superior, fast and controlled heating method. It is a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating methods such as ovens, oil baths or blow torches. These methods cause fumes or oil waste and are not recommended for personal health and safety.

Details:

Timken induction heaters use the principle of induction, similar to a transformer. The heater and yokes remain cool; only the work piece is heated. During the induction heating cycle, a certain degree of magnetism occurs. All Timken heaters demagnetize automatically after each heating cycle.

Proper mounting may lengthen the life span of your equipment, and controlled induction heating helps to prevent unnecessary damage.

Digital electronics provide optimum control during the heating process and automatically select the most efficient power supply to help ensure balanced and fast heating.

Timken’s Hydrodynamic Labyrinth (HDL) seal is one of the key components in the industry-leading packaged rail bearing design. This seal marries the best lip-type and labyrinth (close-clearance) sealing technology.

Compared to conventional lip-type seals, the HDL design:

Improves lube film

Analyzing seal performance and developing innovative sealing solutions has been a Timken core competency for decades. As with many integrated bearing assemblies like the AP-2™, the seal is one of the most critical and differentiating components that impacts overall bearing and system performance.

In addition to traditional lip-style seals and our HDL™ hybrid design, Timken offers the EcoTurn^® labyrinth seal, a revolutionary design that essentially eliminates all seal torque. The result is less frictional forces in the bearing.

Patent-pending, non-contacting seal design leverages extensive research and testing to deliver performance unmatched in the industry.
The EcoTurn seal proved superior at keeping water out of the bearing assembly and consistently outperformed the competitor’s premium low-torque seal when tested by Timken utilizing the Association of American Railroads (AAR) M959 standard testing procedures for the equivalent of 100,000 service miles (162,000 km). The EcoTurn seal also exceeded the M959 water-exclusion requirements.
No direct contaminant ingress path which provides reliable performance by reducing the likelihood of debris entering the bearing assembly.
Improved grease retention which helps minimize grease weepage.

Simplified Installation: Installable with any flat tool including your hand, the ribbed rubber OD with piloted installation guide promotes accurate and square installation to reduce cocked seals.
Extended Seal Life: Advanced material compositions (HNBR: Hydrogenerated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) on all sealing lip and outer diameter surfaces promote longer seal life across a broad temperature range (-40º F to 310º F [-40º C to 150º C]), including hot starts and braking.
